Thailands Crazy Bustling Markets

Thailand’s markets sell everything and can be located anywhere! The world’s biggest market and the best markets and shopping areas in Bangkok

Thai markets are renowned for being hectic and cheap. Even the smaller markets selling meat, fish, vegetables and fruit attract enough locals for the stalls to get busy and the aisles over crowded. But amongst these crowds and searing heat are endless bargains to be found, especially if you don’t mind haggling.

While visiting anywhere in Thailand you can be sure to come across markets in the most weird and wonderful (but sometimes disgusting) settings; in parks, along the sidewalk, in malls, under bridges, next to temples, along the banks of the rivers, even on boats floating on the river! However, not one market I have seen here in Thailand quite takes the concept of “location is everything” quite so literally as this following clip.

A Thai market situated directly upon on a railway line:

Thailand is a country well known for its shopping, here you can find anything from latest designer fashions and consumer electronics through to antiques, food, flowers or anything else you can think of to adorn yourself, home or garden with.

Over the last decade, Bangkok has seen an influx of malls popping up around central business district. In the downtown area of Siam Square there are no less than 9 malls along the 2 km stretch of road leading to Central World at Pleon Chit, there are also many more spread across the city.

Nevertheless, traditional style Asian markets are still at the heart of Thailand’s shopping culture. Often bustling and crowded, you’ll find all types of markets in all kinds of locations throughout the country.

Each market has its own character and its own individual setting, some markets specialize in certain items, others sell a wide array of things. Expect a lot of people, a bit of chaos and lot of bargins.
Here are a few images of some of our favorite markets in Bangkok.
