Doctor Makes Painful Labor Worse

Woman accuses Dr Scott Pierce of making painful labor worse…

Chicago – A mother of five has filed a law suit against Dr. Scott Pierce claiming he committed acts of malpractice during the birth of her fifth child last March.

Catherine Skol is both and emotional and physically strong woman who spent a decade as a Chicago police officer. During this time she worked on rough assignments as part of the tactical unit, until a head-on collision on the job put her on medical disability.

Despite her background, nothing prepared her for the morning of labor she endured with Dr. Pierce.

“It was the worst pain I ever had in my life…
“I just don’t want him to hurt another person.”

Upon her arrival at Rush University Medical Center Skol was forced to wait 4 hours for Dr. Scott Pierce, a fill-in for Skol’s regular doctor who was out of town.

When Dr. Pierce arrived he immediately chastised Skol for not calling ahead. The suit said the doctor told Skol it was too late, and that there was no time for pain medication.

Pierce allegedly told a nurse that Skol deserved the pain because she had not called before coming in. “Sometimes pain is the best teacher,” the suit quoted him as saying.

The doctor conducted a painful vaginal exam in the middle of a contraction and then told Skol to start pushing, despite not being fully dilated, according to the suit.

Pierce also berated her and hospital staff who questioned him, telling her to:

“Shut up, close your mouth and push,”

Pierce said Skol was likely to hemorrhage during birth and said the baby might die, causing Skol and her husband to fear complaining, the suit alleged.

Pierce also made phone calls on his cell, during which he was heard cursing about colleagues and talking about an abortion for a woman he said should never have gotten pregnant.

The suit also alleges that after the birth, Pierce gave Skol needless stitches using a needle that was unnecessarily large.

A spokeswoman for Rush said that the hospital doesn’t condone the actions described in the suit but explained that Pierce is in private practice and is not employed by the hospital.

The hospital have disciplined him with a written warning and indefinite probation. If he is to do wrong again , he will be barred from the hospital.

Skol’s attorney, Kathleen Zellner, said the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation is also investigating Pierce. Pierce declined to comment.
