Red Wine Increases Womens Sex Drive

Italian researchers have concluded that red wine helps boost a woman’s sex drive…

Italian researchers have concluded that red wine directly increases a woman’s sexual desire. The results of the study revealed that women who drank moderate amounts of red wine had a higher sexual desire than those who preferred other alcoholic drinks or did not drink at all.

While it is not clear exactly how red wine boosts women’s sex drive, researchers from the University of Florence who carried out the study hypothesize that the antioxidants contained in the drink have a beneficial effect on the lining of blood vessels, widening them and helping to increase blood flow to key areas of the body.

Red Wine Can Increase Womens Sex Drive

Antioxidants provide many health benefits, in red wine have a beneficial effect on the lining of blood vessels, widening the vessels and increasing blood flow to key areas of the body.

“While this finding needs to be interpreted with some caution, it nevertheless suggests a potential relationship between red wine consumption and better sexuality.”

The study involved 800 women aged 18 to 50, none of whom had reported previous sexual health problems.

The participants were split into three groups – those who regularly consumed one or two glasses of red wine a day, those who consumed less than one glass a day of any other sort of alcohol, and those who drank no alcohol at all.

The women who drank more than two glasses a day were excluded from the study to avoid
confounding effects of drunkenness.

The women were then asked to complete a questionnaire known as the Female Sexual Function Index. The FSF Index includes 19 questions which doctors used to assess woman’s sexual health. The score range is between 2 and 36, a higher score meaning better sexual function.

Overall the red wine drinks scored higher at an average of 27.3 points, compared to 25.9 for the less frequent drinks and 24.4 for the non-drinkers.

Researchers were even more astonished at the results because the red wine drinkers were, on average, older than the other groups, and sexual decline is closely associated with age.

The findings were reported in the Journal of Sexual Medicine last week.
