Man Performs Own Fecal Enema

Man Performs Own Fecal Enema

Man gives himself a fecel enema to cure bacterial infection…

A 66-year-old Novo Scotian man from Albert Bridge, Cape Breton, recently performed his own faecal transplant to cure himself of a bacterial in the bowel.

The man, who asked not to be named, had suffered from a bacterial infection known as Clostridium difficile, or C. difficil, since undergoing Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, 18 months ago.

Dr. Baroudi Fashir at Cape Breton Regional Hospital was scheduled to perform the faecal enema, which involves inserting donated feces into the patient’s bowel using a colonoscope, on the 9th of March. But even though the medial advisory committee had approved the procedure, it couldn’t go ahead because no guidelines had been set.

By March 39th, frustrated and desperate to cure the infection, the man decided to perform the infusion himself using feces donated by his cousin. The stool had apparently been tested for blood-borne infections of parasites, the man then mixed up slurry with water and performed the transplant in his bathroom. The procedure is said to restore the bowel’s natural bacterial environment.

When told about the D.I.Y. procedure, a shocked Dr. Fashir advised against anyone trying such a thing: “He did it by himself?….”It’s not good to do by himself.”

Nevertheless, the man is now feeling healthy and in good spirits:

“It’s a nasty topic to discuss, but faecal transplants work, and I was not ready to wait any longer…

“And I’m feeling good, but my fingers are crossed and I’m hoping and praying it doesn’t come back,” [Abroath]
