Some parts of America are known for their stifling heat, but no matter where in the U.S. you reside, nowhere quite compares to the heat and humidity of Thailand.

Almost every tourist that arrives is struck by the heat of the country’s capital Bangkok, and as anyone who has visited Thailand will know, air conditioned buildings outside of the city are few and far between.

So what do you do when you’re caught in the crippling heat without air conditioning or a cooler place to hide? Target the body’s quick cooling spots to reduce your core temperature.

The body’s quick cool sports are the areas where blood vessels are close to the surface of the skin – the most popular points are often the wrists and neck. By applying a cool wet towel to these areas, you can help bring your body’s temperature down to a more comfortable level.

  • Between the temple and the ear. (Not the forehead as many believe.)
  • The neck.
  • Inside of the elbow.
  • The wrist.
  • Inner thigh.
  • Inside of the knee.
  • Tops of the feet.
  • Inside of the ankle.

There are a couple if ways you can cool these areas; a wet towel wrapped in ice or dipped in cool water; and a cool water bath. Whichever method you’re using, make sure it’s cool, not freezing.

Targeting these areas will certainly help to lower your body temperature, but it won’t be a 100 percent sure for the heat.

If you find yourself in uncomfortable temperatures, make sure you stay hydrated and out of the sun.
