Social Network Website Axes Fat Members

The popular social networking website cancels 5000 accounts after complaints members had gained too much weight…

In a surprise move, popular dating website BeautifulPeople.com has axed some 5,000 members following complaints they had put on pounds over the festive season.

The overweight members were singled out after posting pictures of themselves that showed they had gained weight. The US, the UK, and Canada all topped the list of excluded members.

The site has always been unrepentant about its selection process, calling itself “the largest network of attractive people in the world”, and only allowing new members if existing ones vote them as being sufficiently attractive.

The move was reportedly prompted by members themselves, who police the membership of the site to maintain a high – if highly subjective – standard of attractiveness.

Greg Hodge, the managing director of BeautifulPeople.com said:

“We responded to complaints by moving the newly chubby members back to the rating stage. This is the same as having them re-apply…

“Their re-applications were reviewed by existing members and only a few hundred were voted back in. Over 5,000 were rejected.”

Site founder Robert Hintze, said:

“As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld…

“Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded.”
