Women Grows Third Nipple On Foot

A 22-year-old woman has been diagnosed with having the lowest ‘third nipple’ to have ever been medically recorded.

Around 1 in 5 people suffer from vestigial nipples, also known as supernumerary nipples, but most cases occur above the waist, along the mammary lines that run from the genitals to the breast. More rare cases have seen third nipples on the back, shoulder, face and even the thighs, but this is said to be the first ever in which a nipple has been found on the foot.

The women sought medical care for what she thought was a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot. The lesion actually turned out to be fully formed nipple, surrounded by areola and even hair.

“Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands…

“Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma…

“To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot.” [Dermatology Onilne]

Many famous people throughout history have been known to third nipples including King Henry VIII of England’s wife Anne Boleyn, and in more recent years, actor Mark Walhberg and pop star Lilly Allen have both shown off their oddity to the public.

In folklore third nipples, more commonly referred to as witch’s nipples, were believed to be used by demons for feeding, in other cultures they were considered a sign of virility and fertility. Nowadays however, the third nipple has become synonymous with party tricks more than tales of old.
