The Science Of Sex – Why having sex on a regular basis is good for your health....
We all know that eating a well-balanced diet and taking regular exercise is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is also fairly common knowledge that sex is good for us… but what exactly are the benefits of regular sexual activity?
8 reasons why regular sex is good for your health:
Sex can help increase fertility
According to Australian researchers, having sex everyday can boost a man’s fertility. Dr David Greening and his team at the Sydney IVF clinic, found that sperm DNA suffers more damage the longer it sits in the body:
“It’s best to keep the river flowing,” says Greening:
“This means the sperm doesn’t hang around so long and become damaged. There’s less time for vandalism.”
Sperm helps combat depression
Sex is known to elevate the level of the hormone oxytocin, which causes general happiness in both genders. But there may be an added bonus for women…
A study conducted at the State University of New York which compared women whose partners wear condoms with those whose partners don’t, found that the women who were directly exposed to semen during sex were less depressed.
Gordon Gallup, the psychologist who led the study, says this is because mood-altering hormones in semen are absorbed through the vagina.
Oral sex during pregnancy is good for you
Not only is exposure to semen good for women, According to an excerpt from the Journal of Reproductive Immunology, it is a good idea to ingest it!
“While any exposure to a partner’s semen during sexual activity appears to decrease a woman’s chances for the various immunological disorders that can occur during pregnancy, immunological tolerance could be most quickly established through oral introduction and gastrointestinal absorption of semen.”
Sex helps combat sleep deprivation
We all know that sleep deprivation is a serious condition associated with many health problems, but did you know that sex is a great natural way to promote better sleeping habits?
According to Laura Berman, the director of the Berman Center for Women’s Sexual Health, if you are suffering from sleepless nights:
“You should try having sex. It will help you sleep, because it releases endorphins and you feel better about yourself. Or try to relax; give each other a massage.”
Sex can help boost your immune system
Psychologists in Pennsylvania have shown that people who have sex once or twice a week get a boost to their immune systems.
Having sex boosts levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA), an antigen found in saliva and mucosal linings. “IgA is the first line of defence against colds and flu,” Carl Charnetski of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre.
Who would of guessed that sex was a good way to prevent colds, flu and other infections?
Sex can help prevent endometiosis
Having regular sex can help prevent Endometiosis, a painful condition that affects 10 million American women and often results in infertility
According to research by Yale physician Harvey Kliman, M.D, sexual activity, orgasm and tampon seemed to play a role in lessening the risk of developing the condition.
It is also thought that orgasms reduce the pain of menstrual cramps.
Sex can help with weight-loss
Sex is a great workout, just 30 mins of sexual activity will burn around 200 calories, In addition sex stimulates the production of phenetylamine, a natural amphetamine that regulates the appetite.
Sex helps you love longer
A study at Queens University in Belfast published in the British Medical Journal reported that men who enjoyed regular orgasms lived up to twice as long as though who did not enjoy sex.
