Turmeric

This Asian spice often found in curries and mustard, is part of the ginger family, and contains similar medicinal properties. Researchers at the University of California looked at six human trials involving turmeric and concluded that its a safe and effective anti-inflammatory.

Garlic

Garlic contains volatile compounds known as alliinase, or alliin alkyl-sulfenate-lyase. All of the onion family has this natural analgesic, which improves circulation and relieves pain by loosening up the joints.

Mustard greens

Not the most popular ingredient in the west, mustard greens cooks rather like spinach and kale. This bitter herb reduces swelling and is great sautéed in olive oil with garlic, ginger, and/or onions.

Black Beans

Black beans improve kidney function and bone strength, and stronger bones means suppler joints. Black beans are also a mild diuretic and contain lignants, a natural antioxidant that helps reduce the damaging effects of inflammation.

Parsley

Parsley is a herb that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. A study reported in the Journal of Natural Remedies found that rats treated with parsley leaf extract, reduce inflammation in the animals paws. While more studies on humans are needed, there’s certainly no harm is adding this mild herb to your favorite dishes.

Coriander

Coriander, also known as cilantro, or Chinese parsley, is another herb that has anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers at the All Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, published a study in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, which found that two groups of rats with RA-like symptoms showed significantly reduced swelling after being given coriander.
