Many people consider undergoing cosmetic surgery to rejuvenate facial features, however most opt for a single procedure such as rhinoplasty (nose job), genioplasty (chin surgery), or a facelift.

The new study, conducted by Dr. Dario Bertossi, an associate professor in the department of surgery at the University of Verona and his colleagues, shows that rhinoplasty combine with genioplasty may be the best option when it comes to satisfying and long lasting results.

This is because an aesthetically pleasing face is fundamentally determined by the proportions of the chin and nose, and it’s also the reason why some people who undergo a rhinoplasty may not get the results they expect. Bertossi said:

“We can for sure improve facial profile with stable results with rhinoplasty alone, but the association with genioplasty is fundamental and necessary to achieve the best aesthetic result,”

Bertossi’s team analyzed 90 people who underwent simultaneous nose and chins reshaping between January 2002 and January 2004. After three years, the researchers found that 45.6 percent of those who had chin reductions showed no changes in their new chin, and that 52 percent of those who had chin extensions, also showed a “stable” profile – no more than a millimeter of change, the researchers noted.

Overall, the study showed that this combination surgery resulted in minimal change, or instability, in the shape of the patient’s chin, and was often the better solution for people with small chins (microgenia).

Other experts agree. Dr. Jeffrey Salomon, an assistant clinical professor of plastic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn, not involved with the study, said that doing both procedures at one time made sense since it not only reduces costs but also recovery time.

Salomon did note that these surgeries do carry risks. Nose surgery is often more problematic than chin surgery, “It is decidedly harder to get good rhinoplasty results compared with genioplasty,” Salomon explained. Also, all nose jobs under go some subtle changes over the first 12 to 24 months.

Chin reshaping is a little trickier, however most surgeons can get great results when simple performing chin implants. Chin reshaping is more invasive and more costly compared with chin implants, and the recovery is longer, which raises the risk of complication.

Nevertheless, with modern medicine techniques complications are rare. And as the study shows, most people who undergo chin and nose surgery are happy with the results, for years down the line.

The new code of practice, set by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) aims to put an end to home Botox parties, many of which are held by hosts with no medical training or qualifications.

The guidelines say only qualified doctors, nurses, and surprisingly, dentists, should perform the procedure, and that it should only be done on medical premises. The new regulations also ban any financial promotions or discounts on the procedure, and call for medical staff to advise prospective patients to see a psychologist before having any treatment.

Further more, the new code of practice also stops surgeons from promising that patients will look like specific celebs after treatment, and requests the use of more unambiguous words such as smaller, larger, as apposed to emotive words such as nice, and better.

There will also be a cooling-off period of at least two weeks between the initial consultation and the procedure, the guidelines add.

Modern day attititudes towards cosmetic surgey have become more relaxed, but experts worry that people’s opinions towards certain procedure such as Botox have become far too relaxed.

It’s important to note that the new code of practice is not the law of land, not just yet anyway. But it does show medical community finally attempting to put at stop to unsafe procedures carried out in the home.

So, if you’re a frequent Botox party goer, you might not be able to get your injections done in the same manner as before, but by visiting a trained physician you can be sure that you’re getting the best possible treatment.

However an increasing amount of women are now opting to have cosmetic surgery on their feet to make wearing high-heels a more confortable experience.

Patients considering surgery of the foot or ankle, whether for medical or aesthetic reasons, are advised to consult a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association…

“Podiatrists performing surgery for medical or aesthetic reasons should have appropriate training, experience, and credentials to properly perform the surgery, manage the post-operative care, and treat the possible complications.” [Fox]

Dr. Christopher Ahmad, an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University and head team physician for the New York Yankees explained to Fox News that many baseball pitchers believe that Tommy John surgery will allow them to throw more effectively.

This belief stems from the story of former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tommy John, who famously recovered from an UCL injury thanks the procedure carried out by Dr. Frank Jobe, an orthopedic surgeon and special advisor to the Dodgers. John injured is elbow in the middle of a great season in 1974. He was out for almost two years, before returning to win more games than ever before.

The main point that experts stress is the fact that any surgery comes with risks, and for UCL reconstruction those risks include stiffening of the elbow and muscle tearing, both of which are injuries that could permanently end an athletes career.

Ahmad points out that the success rate of Tommy John surgery maybe somewhat skewed. He claims that research and the media tend to highlight those who come back to play better, whereas those who did not come back simply get forgotten about. Ahamd also worries that such belief may lead to more injuries in case where coaches and pitchers become more reckless because they assume any injury can be fixed. He went on to quote another study that found 30% of coaches did not think that throwing too much would lead to injury.

These misconceptions raise concerns that coaches, sports physicians, and the athletes themselves are not being properly educated on the dangers of such surgeries, and that more focus needs to put into teaching such knowledge.

Oneal Morris, 32, known as the Duchess to her patients, allegedly sealed Shatarka Nuby’s buttock injections with super glue and cotton ball, according to the sheriff’s official.

Shortly after the surgery Nuby suffered a ‘massive systemic silicone migration’ from the foreign substance in her body. This caused her skin to turn black, and the area where the injections had been administered to turn hard and hot before Nuby sadly passed away in March.

During her ordeal, Nuby wrote a letter to investigators at the Department of Health to swear that she had employed Ms. Morris to perform the procedure around 10 times between 2007 and 2011.

Nuby said she paid hundreds of dollars for each home visit from Ms Morris, who would come to her house in Tallahassee to perform buttock, hip, thigh and breast injections with an unknown substance.

Ms Morris, who was born a man but identifies as a women, has a list of patients who also suffered complications after receive injections they claim contained bathroom caulk, cement, super glue, mineral oil, and even fix-and-flat temporary tire fixer – but only Shatarka Nuby’s were fatal.

Oneal Morris, who was also arrested last autumn for practicing medicine without a license, and causing serious bodily harm, had been wanted by the police for almost a year. She was finally arrested Thursday 27th July, at her mother’s home in South Florida.
