Maggots Found Growing In Man’s Head
Doctors Discover Live Maggots Living Inside Man's Scalp
After returning home from a trip to Belize this summer, Aaron Dallas, a citizen of Colorado was forced to seek medical advice when strange bumps appeared on his scalp.
Doctors remained puzzled at the oddly shaped lumps until one day they starting moving, suddenly doctors realized that Dallas was host to 5 live botfly maggots.
“I’d put my hand back there and feel them moving. I thought it was blood coursing through my head,”
“I could hear them. I actually thought I was going crazy.”
Dallas thought the lumps may have been insect bite or shingles and was more than surprised to find out that his scalp was a seemingly nutrient home for 5 maggots.
Adult botflies are known for being more aggressive than European flies, attacking livestock, deer and humans with no remorse. They rely on mosquitoes, stable flies, and other insects to carry their eggs to a host, which in this case had been Dallas.
“It was weird and traumatic,” Dallas adds.
“I would get this pain that would drop me to my knees.”
But as traumatic as this may seem, botfly infections are fairly common in parts of Central and South America.
